Emad Khalil
Professor Dr. Emad Khalil is the founder and director of the Alexandria University Centre for Maritime Archaeology & Underwater Cultural Heritage. He is also the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies and Research.
Dr. Khalil was the former president of the ICOMOS- International Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (ICUCH).
In 1998 Dr Khalil obtained a BA in Greek and Roman Archaeology from the Alexandria University, hence, he was employed as a teaching assistant in Classical Archaeology. He then obtained MA and PhD degrees in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton, UK in 2002 and 2005 respectively. Consequently he was employed by Alexandria University as a Lecturer in Maritime Archaeology.
Dr. Khalil has been involved in maritime and underwater archaeology since the early nineties. Since, then he contributed to several research projects including the Pharos Project, the Sadana Island Shipwreck Excavation, the Lake Mareotis Research Project, the Marsa Bagoush Underwater Survey and the Thistlegorm Project. He has also been involved in several EU funded projects concerned with the preservation and presentation of Egypt's cultural heritage.
