Dimitrios Pandermalis

Dimitrios Pandermalis, is Professor Emeritus of Classical Archaeology. He has served as President of the History and Archaeology Department and Dean of the Philosophical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He got his degree in Archaeology and History from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1963. He obtained a second degree in German Language and Philology in 1965, from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed his postgraduate studies in Freiburg i. Br. in Germany. In 1969 he got his Ph.D at the University of Freiburg (Germany).

He organized many archaeological exhibitions, among them, Alexander the Great and the Orient in 1997 in Thessaloniki. Gods and Mortals at Olympus in New York (Onassis Foundation) in 2016. The Great Gods of Samothrace in 2015 in the Acropolis Museum and Dodona, the Oracle of the Sounds in 2016 in the Acropolis Museum.

He has presented lectures and seminars in classical archaeology in many institutions internationally.

Since 1973 he has been Director of the University's Archaeological Excavations at the ancient site of Dion at the foothills of Mount Olympus where he created the site archaeological museum and conducted innovative programs converting the excavated area into an archaeological and environmental park.

From September 1996 to March 2000 he served as National Member of the Greek Parliament.

From May 2000 he is the President of the Organization for the Construction of the New Acropolis Museum and since May 2009 he is the President of the Acropolis Museum.

He has over 60 publications in Classical Archaeology. Among them:

Dimitrios Pandermalis has served as President of the State Theater of Northern Greece. He is an ordinary member of the Archaeological Society in Athens and of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin. He has served as President of the Teloglion Fine Arts Foundation and he is Honorary Chairman of International Alexander Foundation.

He has achieved the Distinction of Grand Commander of the Order of Phoenix of the Hellenic Republic and Commander First Class of the Order of the Lion of Finland.
